History

Origins

In the early 1970s, Mr Meulensteen donned his baker’s hat and began making puff pastry for bakeries. This expanded to include developing apple turnovers. Under the name Mola – Latin for millstone – the apple turnover and other puff pastry products found their way to a wider audience. By working hard, using only the finest ingredients and following authentic recipes, Mr Meulensteen’s venture was a success in the region and far beyond.

A developing family business

Sons Geert and Vic joined the company and brought about significant developments, such as Mola’s partnership with Banketbakkerij De Graaf Bakeries in 2000 for sales in the Benelux region. This collaboration allowed Mola to further specialise in production to meet customer demand.

Move to a new location

In 2012, Mola moved into a new, modern facility designed to flexibly meet market demands. Alongside the existing production line, a new line with greater capacity was added.

Now also in Germany

In 2013, Mola expanded internationally by partnering with the German company Bakerman®. By combining Mola’s modern production techniques with Bakerman’s knowledge of the German-speaking market, a highly successful partnership was formed.

A future full of passion

Two years later, in January 2016, Vic Meulensteen decided to step back from the business by mutual agreement. Although Vic remains involved behind the scenes, his brother Geert is now responsible for continuing Mola’s craft, quality and passion into the future – along with many other master colleagues, of course.

“That collaboration allowed Mola to further specialize in the manufacturing process”

Further investments

In 2017, Mola introduced a third production line, expanding the range to include risen dough products such as croissants. The following year, in 2018, a new fully automated frozen warehouse with 5,000 pallet spaces was opened.

24/7 production and additional support

In 2019, we switched entirely to a five-shift system, meaning we operate 24/7. In addition, Lars Hutten became a co-shareholder, securing Mola’s future and further growth.

A brand new office

Time for more space! In 2020, Mola opened a new 1,500 m2 office building spread over three floors to accommodate further growth.

Expansion of production capacity

Three years later, in 2023, Mola constructed an ultra-modern new factory at the existing site. The specialists began using over 10,000 m² of additional floor space, while a fourth production line went into operation 24/7.
